OUR STORY

This is a love story that’s been a decade in the making. Over the last ten years, the two of us have grown together, learned a lot, and developed an irreplicable bond.

Though there are countless memories to reminisce and many more to create, our story thus far—together with you—takes form in three chapters.

To everyone reading this, we’re so grateful for each and every one of you. You have supported us in each chapter of our relationship, and we couldn’t be where we are today, personally or as a couple, without you.

We cannot wait to celebrate our love with you all!

CHAPTER 1: AN UNLIKELY MEETUP (2015–2017)

We first met on the steps of Wannamaker Quad on a blistering summer afternoon in 2015. We were both attending an entrepreneurship camp at Duke University, so as you can imagine, we went in with ambitions to start a company, not a relationship. However, Peter’s coral Lacoste polo caught Lydia’s attention (how could it not) and Peter was drawn to Lydia’s neon varsity track uniform (again, how could it not). We quickly became friends and over the course of a month bonded most over the eccentric sayings of our professors.

After the camp ended, we went our separate ways, but had grown accustomed to each other’s company. We kept up over text and long FaceTimes for weeks, and finally, after a conversation spurred by Lydia’s mom, we officially started dating. Over the next two years of high school, our families put in immense effort (and miles) for us to visit each other during every school break, even though we lived across the country. By the end of high school, our lives had started coming together: we attended each other’s senior proms, went on college tours over a spring break road trip with our moms, and spent weeks at each other’s homes over the summers.

CHAPTER 2: GO HOOS (2017–2021)

When it came time for college decisions, a make-or-break moment for our relationship as well, we were both on the same page: we each decided to attend the University of Virginia. After two years of dating, we were finally in the same place!

College was instrumental for us, both because we developed our individual interests and skills (neither of us are entrepreneurs… yet), and because we began to grow our relationship in a semi-independent way. We were lucky to find similar-minded groups of friends, which oftentimes congregated in Peter’s apartment, affectionately referred to as Warehouse. During our time at UVA, we also solidified our mutual love of travel and restaurants (and poring over every last detail of a menu online before we’ve even sat down). We took a three-week trip to China to meet Peter’s grandparents and memorably traveled to Morocco *right* on the eve of COVID.

By the end of college and one national championship later, our love felt as strong as ever and we were ready to experience post-grad life together.

CHAPTER 3: NYC + AMTRAK (2021–PRESENT)

After graduating from UVA, we moved to New York City along with many of our friends. We lived together in a cute fourth-floor walkup in Soho that we still have fond memories of and fully embraced the work hard, play hard mentality. Thanks to living together in a NYC-sized apartment, we got our system down: Peter learned that Lydia loved her TV time in the evenings to unwind, and Lydia learned not to wake Peter in the mornings.

In 2023, Lydia moved to Massachusetts for law school while Peter stayed working and living in New York. We’ve become well-versed with Amtrak, for all its beauty and flaws, but nevertheless are always greeted by a big smile and a kiss on the other end, which makes it all worth it.

By the time of our wedding, Lydia will have graduated and the distance will be closed once more, and so a new chapter will thus begin…

À bientôt en France!

With love,
